Race Distance:            10-kilometer and 1.5 mile fun run.

Fees:                           $30.00 pre-registration, $40.00 race day for individuals over 12 years old on race day.                                                                                                                                   (birthdate before Sept. 16, 2000)

                                    $20.00 pre-registration, $20.00 race day for individuals under 12 years old on race day.
                                                                                                                                    (birthdate after Sept. 16, 2000)

Background:                       The Darien Road Race has been run since 1979.  The race attracts over 500 runners and 
                                    hundreds of families, other spectators and community organizations.  Both races begin
                                    and end at Pear Tree Point Beach and run along scenic waterfront roads.
                                    
Fundraiser:                   Now in its 33rd year, the race has raised more than $900,000 to support local community
                                   social services and cancer-support organizations. The 2012 Darien Road Race benefits The 
                                   Community Fund of Darien; The Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital and The 
                                   Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.

Awards:                     The Grand Prize - a BMW bicycle will be awarded to the top individual fundraiser on race day.                                     You must be present to win.

                                   Awards are presented to men and women in the following categories: 10K (6.2 miles), 1^st, 2nd,
                                   3^rd, overall and in age category; “The Loop” (1.5 miles) – 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd overall.  

                      Other Awards include: The Jim Fixx Award, presented to the runner who raises the most in contributions; Atria Darien Awards, to the oldest and youngest runners with best finish times in either the 10-K or “The Loop” events.
